The process

Our steps, and how long each one takes.

Most patients are seen within 3 to 4 weeks of a complete referral. You'll know what happens next at every stage.

  1. Referral from GP or Nurse Prac.

Get a referral from your GP or Nurse Practitioner. You'll need it to claim a Medicare rebate. Your referral must include current investigations: bloods, ECG and a urine drug screen.

  2. Intake Call

Our Clinician calls you. About 15 minutes. We answer your questions and confirm we're the right fit before booking anything.

  3. Pre-assessment

We send you screening forms and ask about your history. If a parent or someone who knew you as a child can fill in a few things, that helps.

  4. Assessment

A 60 to 90 minute appointment with our Clinician. They'll work through a full diagnostic interview and check whether anything else is contributing.

  5. Diagnosis & Plan

A clear answer (yes, no, or something else), a written report you can keep, and a plan covering medication, strategies, and when to review.

  6. Ongoing Care

Where appropriate, ongoing care is provided through our clinic. If medication is prescribed, your GP will be permitted to take over prescribing once you are stable.

The clinic

What to expect on the day, before you even arrive.

You'll have screening forms, a clear arrival time, and an idea of who you're meeting and why. The consultation itself is structured but unhurried. Sixty to ninety minutes is the right amount of time for a proper assessment.

ADHD FAQ

The questions we hear most.

I've done an online questionnaire and scored high. Is that enough?

No. Online screeners are useful indicators but they're not a diagnosis. Adult ADHD shares features with anxiety, depression, trauma and sleep disorders. A formal assessment looks at the full clinical picture so you don't end up on the wrong treatment.

Do I need childhood evidence?

It helps. We ask about developmental and school history, and where possible we invite you to bring along observations from a parent or someone who knew you well as a child. If that's not available, we work with what we have. It doesn't rule you out.

How long until I can start medication?

If a stimulant or non-stimulant is clinically appropriate, our psychiatrist can initiate it at the assessment appointment. Titration could take several weeks, with reviews built in. Your GP takes over ongoing prescribing once you're stable.

What if I'm not diagnosed with ADHD?

You still get a full psychiatric assessment, a written summary, and clear next steps. Often that includes a referral somewhere more suitable, like anxiety treatment, an autism assessment, or psychology.

Can the whole assessment be done by telehealth?

Your first appointment is preferably in person at our Melbourne clinic. Review appointments during dose adjustment and ongoing care can be telehealth, which works well once we know you.

How much does it cost?

A full adult ADHD assessment (across multiple appointments, including a medication review before GP handover) is $1,750. Medicare rebates apply for eligible patients with a current GP or Nurse Practitioner referral, with estimated out-of-pocket of $1,046–$1,326. Payment is required in advance for each appointment. The full fee schedule is on our Fees page, and we are always happy to discuss our Fees with you before booking an appointment. If appointments are required beyond an ADHD assessment, these additional costs will be discussed with you.
