Getting here

By train, bus or car

If you're not sure of the way, ask us when you book and we'll talk you through it.

By train

Blackburn station is on the Belgrave and Lilydale lines, so it's a direct train from Camberwell, Surrey Hills, Box Hill, Nunawading, Mitcham and Ringwood. From the station, walk east along Railway Road and turn left into Chapel Street, which runs up to Whitehorse Road. The building is a short way along, and most people make the walk in under ten minutes.

By bus

Bus routes change from time to time, so the most reliable way to plan the trip is the Transport Victoria journey planner. Enter 1 Chapel Street, Blackburn as your destination.

By car and parking

Please ask us about parking when you book, and we'll tell you where to leave the car for your appointment. Allow a few extra minutes on your first visit while you find your way.

Access needs

The clinic is on the ground floor. If you use a wheelchair or walking aid, or have any other access needs, tell us when you book and we'll plan your visit around them.

What to bring

What to bring to your first appointment

If something on this list is hard to find, come anyway. We can usually sort out the rest with you or your GP afterwards.

  • Your referral from your GP or Nurse Practitioner, made out to ‘The Psychiatrist at Outcome Health’, if we don’t already have it
  • Your Medicare card
  • A list of the medications you take now, with doses, including anything you buy without a prescription
  • Any letters or reports from past mental health care, if you have them
  • For an ADHD assessment, your current investigations from your GP: bloods, an ECG and a urine drug screen

You're welcome to bring a partner, parent or another support person with you. For an ADHD assessment it also helps to bring notes from someone who knew you well as a child, if that's possible.

When you arrive

What happens on the day

  1. Come to the ground floor

Head to the ground floor of the building at 1 Chapel Street and let our team know you've arrived. Try to get here five or ten minutes early on your first visit.

  2. Your first appointment is with a nurse practitioner

Your first appointment is a 60 to 90 minute consultation with one of our Mental Health Nurse Practitioners. They take your health history, go through intake screening and gather what the psychiatrist needs.

  3. You then see the psychiatrist

You see one of our psychiatrists at a separate appointment for diagnosis and a treatment plan, and we send a consultation letter to your GP after every visit.

  4. Payment

Payment is required in advance for all appointments. We're a cashless clinic and take Visa, Mastercard and American Express. With a valid referral, we process your Medicare rebate for you at the time of the consultation. Every fee is on our fee schedule, and rebates shown there are estimates.

After your first visit

Telehealth for reviews, and who comes to Blackburn

Your first appointment is preferably in person here in Blackburn. Once we know you, review appointments can be by telehealth anywhere in Victoria, which saves you the trip for medication reviews and ongoing care.

We see adults aged 17 and over. GPs refer patients to us from across Melbourne's eastern suburbs, including Blackburn, Box Hill, Doncaster, Nunawading, Mitcham, Forest Hill, Surrey Hills and Camberwell, and telehealth reviews mean you can stay with us if you live further out. If you're not sure whether we're the right service for you, read about ongoing psychiatry care and ADHD assessments, or ask your GP to look at what we see and what we don't.
